Halloween- Halloween is quickly approaching! For the day of Halloween, students are allowed to wear costumes but please nothing too scary and no weapons. Save masks and special props for Halloween night as these are distracting and tend to get lost or broken when brought to school! We will be participating in the Dance-a-thon on Halloween as well! If your family has collected any donations for the Dance-a-thon, thank you very much and please send them in on Thursday. We will not be having a Halloween party with treats so please do not send in any candy on Halloween. This is mostly because our day is fun of full activities anyways and students will be bringing in food next week for their science project (see last week's post for more information if you missed this). English - Students received their English spelling test yesterday from Mme Wallace. Please practice words that they struggled with at-home. Food Sensitivities - If your child has any food allergies or sensitivities that the school is not already aware of that you would like me to be aware of for next week's potluck, please let me know before next week. PD Day - No school this Friday for students.

Science - Students were given a science project today that is to be completed at home. It is called The Plants We Eat! Students will prepare a dish to bring to school and share with the class. Students must identify a minimum of 4 plants that are in the dish and what part of the plant we are eating. Example, if there is a carrot in their recipe, we are actually eating a root! Please see necessary documents. Math - Students received an End of Unit Evaluation today to bring home and share with parents. Please review with your child and get in touch if you have any questions or it did not make it home. Halloween - We will be participating in a dance-a-thon next Thursday for Halloween. If you would also like to donate a pumpkin (big or small) for our class, we will be using it for math next Thursday. Merci! Toasty Toes - A Guelph program called Toasty Toes collects socks for families in need. Please consider donating a new pair of socks if possible! DOCUMENTS FOR SCIENCE PROJECT - The Plants We Eat:
Agendas - Agendas have finally arrived! Please be sure you are checking your child's agenda each night. We will do our best to write in them each day. If you have not already paid, please pay online or send in $5 cash.
Scientist in the School - Our scientist workshop on Tuesday was filled with exciting learning about erosion, worms and soil particles. If you have not already, please pay $7 for this workshop either online or in cash. It seems that there were some glitches on the website earlier this week that should be resolved now. Pictures - Picture orders are due online tonight. Picture retakes will take place November 15th if interested. Scholastic - Scholastic orders are due this Friday if interested. English - Students have completed an English spelling test with their English teacher, Mme Wallace. Mme Wallace has sent these home about a week ago. If there are words spelled incorrectly, please practice these words at home with your child. There will be another spelling test coming home soon. CCAT - The students did a great job for their first day of CCAT today. We will continue tomorrow and Thursday to finish up the CCAT assessment.
Scientists in the School - Our class will participate in Scientists in the School next Tuesday. This workshop costs $7/student. The preferred method of payment is School Cash Online. You should receive an email today with a link to make this payment. You can also send $7 to school with your child. I am still looking for 2 more parent volunteers to help run this workshop - please send me an email if you are interested or have questions. Merci! Scholastic - Students received their first Scholastic flyer today. If you would like to order any books for your family, it is easy to do online! Purchases made through Scholastic help our class buy new books for our class. Order through Karley Elias. See code at the bottom of this post for a free book! The Scholastic orders are due by 9AM on Friday October 18th. Food Drive - Our school is participating in a food drive for a local Food Bank until October 18th. Please send your child with a non-perishable food item or a toiletry if possible. Please see flyer below for specific items the food bank is requesting. As a school, we did a great job of raising money for Terry Fox! Bravo tout le monde!
Presentations: Students who have presented to the class so far have done a great job! We will continue presentations for the next couple of weeks. For more info about presentations, see last week's post below. Scientists in the School: We will be having Scientists in the school visit on October 15th from 8:35-noon. More info on cost to come. We require parent volunteers for this workshop. If you would like to help run a small station for the workshop (in English), please send me an email. Merci beaucoup! CCAT: We began CCAT practice today in-class and will continue tomorrow and Thursday. New CCAT permission forms were sent home yesterday in student's blue agenda folder (the permission form that went home previously had incorrect dates). Please send in new form ASAP. Bibliobus books: At-home reading books (called Bibliobus books) went home yesterday for the first time. Students picked a book at their reading level. Students are to keep this book to read at home until our next Library period. They are encouraged to read their book a minimum of 3 times. For example, the first time they can read with an adult, then a sibling, then even to a stuffed animal or pet. Our library period falls on Day 4s on our 5-day schedule. Our next library period is Monday October 7th. |
